Company HistoryShoestring Consulting was launched in 1999 by Dave Shoemaker. Dave's goal was to provide computer training and to advise computer users on how to use their PCs to the fullest extent. Dave got frustrated by the quality of PCs he was seeing in the market and began building custom computers. Dave's warm and friendly manner won him many loyal customers. In 2005, Dave decided to sell Shoestring Consulting to John Bacher who shared Dave's vision for customer service.
John Bacher's HistoryJohn has been interested in technology and its applications throughout his life. He acquired his first personal computer in April 1983 and spent many hours mastering operating systems and beginning programming. His first professional work with computers was as a financial systems analyst for a hospital, where he implemented a new patient and financial information system. He also became the hospital's leading expert on Lotus 1-2-3 (a spreadsheet application). His spreadsheet expertise lead to a position with Borland International when they released Quattro. While spreadsheets were interesting, he missed working with mid-range systems, so he took a position with Bank of America in Concord. BASE - Bank of America System Engineering exposed John to many different systems and technologies. While there John implemented the first two document imaging systems for the Bank, as well as the first text retrieval (search-engine) system. He also learned about both Wide Area Networking (WANs) and Local Area Networks (LANs) and PC based servers. His experience with servers and networks lead to a position at the largest medical group in San Francisco where he and his staff supported 22 servers, 25 wide-area networks, and over 400 PCs located in 25 different sites. In 1999, John made the leap into the world of dot-coms, working as Network Operations Manager for two separate dot-coms, which subsequently became dot-bombs as the Internet bubble burst. He found a position as IT Manager for a small start-up manufacturing company based in Antioch, CA where he managed a number of PCs and servers in both the US and in China. A conversation with Dave Shoemaker in late 2004 lead John to acquire Shoestring Consulting in 2005. |
